REVIEW: "Our nature scavenger hunt was A COMPLETE SUCCESS! I am the Activities Director for a 271 site Campground in South Central Pennsylvania. I thought perhaps I would have about 5 teams....ended up with 25! (Luckily I was prepared for 30)! Anyway, people are still absolutely raving about what a blast they had and they can't wait for next years'! Your package was superb! Kudos! Thanks Again!" -Heather Mull, Manheim, PA
You'll need about two hours minimum for this hunt. Your group will be divided into teams of three to 10 people. Each team will receive a collection bag containing various supplies. They will then embark on the scavenger hunt, taking pictures, obtaining specific items and completing fun and creative projects. All the challenges are worth valuable points and there are some bonus point challenges as well. At the conclusion of the hunt, the teams will prepare an optional final presentation while you “grade” their challenge sheets to find the winners based on point total (award certificates are included with this hunt). THE WINNING TEAM will have had the most fun as a team while collecting the most points.
For the TEAM BUILDING VERSION of this scavenger hunt, there will be an added mid-hunt meet where additional challenges (included) will be given out and team members my move to other teams or team roles will change. At the conclusion of the hunt, after the teams present a creative and inspiring final presentation, we recommend you have a debriefing session using the team assessment form included with your kit. TEAM OBJECTIVE: Form an efficient, effective and enthusiastic team that communicates well, works by consensus and has a definite plan of action to complete this adventure hunt. The team that does this the best will be your outstanding team of the day. (While points matter, outstanding team work matters more for this version of the game.)
EXAMPLES: Our Operation When Nature Calls hunt includes 20 pictures challenges (they'll make GREAT memories of the day), a list of items to collect (15), team projects, and a final team presentation. We have lots of different types of challenges to complete to keep it interesting, engaging and fun, fun, fun!
Have your most artistic team member collaborate with someone you've
never met to draw a picture of nature. Take a picture of them in action.
2. Take a picture of the team member who was born the furthest away from here hugging a tree while all other team members arrange themselves in a pattern of some sort (tallest to shortest for example).
3. Find something soft and fuzzy that is not man-made.
NUMBER OF TEAMS or PARTICIPANTS: Unlimited number of teams with a minimum of three to a maximum of 10 people per team. We do recommend one facilitator/helper for every two to three teams to keep things running smoothly, especially when you grade team efforts and tally up completed challenges.
What if you only have a few people participating in scavenger hunt? Instead of dividing them into teams, you can keep them all on one team and have them race against the clock, giving the single team a time limit to complete each section of the hunt (photos, find items, etc.), report back to you for the next section and so on until the hunt is complete.
LENGTH OF THE HUNT: Two to four hours, depending on the size of your group*: Five minutes for opening instructions; a minimum of 1 1/2 hours for the scavenger hunt and about 30 minutes or more for the grading, (optional) team presentations and awards presentation. *The more teams you have, the more time it will take.
For the team building versions of the hunts, allow two to four+ hours, depending on the size of your group: 15-20 minutes for opening instructions, warm up game and team organization; 1 1/2 - two hours for the hunt and about 30 minutes (or more) for grading, team presentations, awards and optional but recommended team assessment discussion.
PRE-HUNT PREP TIME:For up to six teams, you can put our scavenger hunts together in about four to six hours (includes shopping for supplies, reading the scavenger hunt and prepping the materials); as you add teams, you'll need to add time to the pre-hunt prep. You mostly need to print (and perhaps edit) the documents included with the kit, pack the collection bags and you'll need to get team prizes and other inexpensive supplies like clipboards and pens. Our facilitator guide provides a supply checklist for you. *You will need these software programs.
